The 2 fittings sticking out where so close to the preasure plate that there would be very little travel before they hit. I shimed it the right way. Here was my old SM420 setup ( to a buick 225 ) you can see where the pressure plate was rubbing the AN-4 fitting. Also not the funky spacer to help align the hose fitting with the hole for the fork in the buick bellhousing.
